Admission Requirements

Graduate admissions decisions are based on both the undergraduate grade point average (GPA) and the combined GRE General Test score. Applicants for the master's degree program must have:

  1. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, and
  2. An acceptable "GAP" score:
A GAP score is produced by multiplying a student's combined GRE score by their undergraduate GPA. For example, a combined GRE score of 1200 and an undergraduate grade point average of 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale) would produce a GAP score of 3300. The minimum GAP score for admission to the program for students who took the 'old' GRE (three components; Verbal, Quantitative, Analytical) is currently 3500. The minimum GAP score for admission to the program for students who take the 'new' GRE (two components; Verbal and Quantitative) is 2200 plus a 3.5 on the Analytical writing component. Students who do not meet the required GAP score may apply for admission to the program through the Alternate Admissions Process.

Admission to Counseling Programs is contingent upon the successful completion of the initial 6 hours of coursework, which should include CNS 571 (Introduction to Student Affairs in Higher Education).
