Research and Teaching Interests

I particularly enjoy teaching physiological psychology, stats and experimental psychology. I've been drawn to science and especially the biological side of things since I was a child. While I enjoy all the classes I teach, these are my favorites.

For Spring of 2007, I am beginning a research program investigating childhood overweightness and obesity. I'm planing to look at some personality correlates of childhood obesity, such as sensation seeking and locus of control, and eventually to look at family dynamics that are related to childhood obesity. This is somewhat of a leap from where I started in graduate school, investigating the effects of
environment on drug reinforcement pathways--in rats! One of the things I love about psychology is that it offers so
many different paths.

Courses taught

I typically teach some combination of PSY 100 and PSY 199 every semester on the Glasgow campus. Additionally, my upper level courses are scheduled on the following rotation:

Fall of even years (2006, -08, etc.):

  • Statistics in Psychology (PSY 201)
  • Experimental Psychology (PSY 210)

Spring of odd years (2007, -09, etc.):

  • Physiological Psychology (PSY 480)
  • History & Systems of Psychology (PSY 495)

Fall of odd years:

  • Adolescent Psychology (PSY 422)
  • Personality Theories (PSY 450)

Spring of even years:

  • Social Psychology (PSY 350)
  • Psychology of Learning (PSY 410)

Brief biography

I'm proud to be a native Kentuckian (most of the time!) and to bring a depth of experience teaching at several Kentucky university and colleges to Western Kentucky University. In addition to teaching at WKU, I teach fitness classes at the Barren County YMCA, volunteer at my children's school, and coach little league soccer.

I'm married to Brian, who is an attorney in Glasgow, and we have two wonderful, adorable, highly intelligent children who take after their father, Bennett and Emma.
