Dear National Board Candidate:
We have decided to offer an additional JumpStart Seminar for National Board Candidates in the 2008-2009 cycle.
JumpStart is an intense three day workshop for new candidates. Facilitators provide guidance to candidates on the major aspects of the NBPTS certification process, such as interpreting standards, documented accomplishments, videotaping, forms of writing, ethics, the three content entries, assessment center preparation, organization and format. Candidates work with others in the same certificate area (if available) and hear from NBCT's who have “been there.” The goal is that when candidates leave, they have the confidence to move forward using the tools provided for them, developed a network of fellow candidates, have rough drafts of entries, and a plan of action to complete the process.
Certification rate for candidates who completed JumpStart (and stayed with the program!) is much higher than the national average.

Registration Fee: $500 (includes workshop materials and supplies, daily lunch and snacks, and hotel accommodations). Many school districts utilize professional development funds for the candidates.

REGISTRATION FEES OR PURCHASE ORDERS MUST BE RECEIVED BY WKU SEVEN DAYS PRIOR (OCTOBER 3, 2008) TO THE BEGINNING OF THE SESSION IN ORDER TO REMAIN ON THE REGISTRATION ROSTER.
This JUMPSTART seminar will be limited to 20 candidates.
IF FOR ANY REASON YOU CANNOT COMMIT TO PARTICIPATING IN THE SEMINAR THE ENTIRE THREE DAYS, WE MUST ASK YOU TO WITHDRAW. IF AFTER REGISTERING YOU CANNOT COMMIT TO THE THREE DAYS, PLEASE LET US KNOW IMMEDIATELY! WE ALWAYS HAVE SEVERAL CANDIDATES STILL ON THE WAITING LIST.
Specific directions to the JumpStart Seminar location will be emailed to you along with further information concerning the seminar. We have reserved a block of rooms at a local hotel. Since you will have evening assignments, we strongly encourage you to stay overnight in Bowling Green. However, if you live within a 30-mile radius of Bowling Green, you will not be required to stay at the hotel and your registration fee will be reduced to $400. If you desire a private room, there will be an additional $120 charge that covers both nights. However, if you decide to arrive in Bowling Green a day early and want to stay at the same hotel at your own expense, please e-mail me for the hotel information.
If you have any food restrictions, please email Lynn Hines at Lynn.Hines@wku.edu. Lunch and snacks will be provided each day of the seminar. There are also restaurants in the area if you want to choose something other than what the hotel offers. Dinner will be on your own.
Finally, we know that you have many responsibilities. However, we ask that you realize that JumpStart is going to be extremely intense and requires a positive, working mental attitude. You will probably be very tired by the end of the seminar, but you will have a foundation for NBPTS that will make everything worth it.
