Butler, 1LT Crystal (Edsell) (May 04), emailed in Apr 06:  "Just wanted to say Hi.  Jonathan is due back (from Korea) in less than TWO MONTHS!!!  I am so happy, we finally got him orders to come here and be stationed at Fort Bragg.  It was a struggle but we are finally going to be together.  I am now serving as the 1st TSC Assistant Chemical Officer.  It is chaotic and confusing right now with the transformation but we are getting there eventually.  I am currently looking for an XO job for the time frame of Sep/Oct before we go downrange again.  Jonathan is slotted to have his PL time now with 8th OD so we are crossing our fingers on that one.

1LT Butler sent an update in June 2007: "Married almost three years, expecting first child. Will be DCO for HHC 1st TSC Task Force Blackjack, while unit goes back downrange. Completing three years of Active service at the end of this month. Jonathan is stationed here at Bragg too, with the 189th CSSB, will be going downrange sometime next year."

CPT Butler sent an update on 2/9/2008: "Jonathan and I welcomed our first baby girl, Caitlyn Mae Butler, on December 6, 2007. I have put in my resignation packet and after my four year obligation is complete in June I will be a civilian in the IRR. Jonathan is due out in January 2009 if not deployed before that. We are currently still stationed at Fort Bragg, NC." Her email is crystal.butler@us.army.mil

Horstman, 1LT Matthew (Aug 04) emailed on 11/17/2007: "I haven't updated in about a year and a half. I'm still married to my wonderful wife Marianne and still living in Clarksville, stationed at Ft. Campbell with the 101st. I am two months into my second tour in Iraq, this time in Baghdad serving as the HHC 2BCT company XO. Marianne is working as a DA Civilian with 3rd BCT. Looking forward to making it back for homecoming '09."

Shoults, 2LT Michael ('04)  emailed on 12 Oct 05 that he just completed Air Defense Artillery OBC at Fort Bliss, TX. "Bliss is also my follow on assignment and I am going to be a PLT leader in 2BN 43 ADA, 108th Airborne Brigade.  I'm pretty excited.  I will be returning home for hometown recruiting at WKU from 26 OCT to 8 NOV.  It will be nice to get away from the desert and see some trees.  My family is doing great.  My twins are now 16 months old and are becoming a handful, but my wife brittany and I love being parents.  Well, as of now I will be going to Korea for 12 months starting in May."  His email is michael.shoults@us.army.mil

Thompson, 1LT Lyndsey ('04) sent an update in June 2007: "Wanted to stop in and let everyone know what's been going on since I left the hill. Branched MI, ended up at the coldest post on the planet, Ft. Drum, NY (10th Mountain LI) and was finnally dropped into a unit that didn't exist prior to my arrival as the primary S2 (fresh out of OBC). We deployed to Afghanistan 6 months latet, completed our mission and returned home to the worst snow storm of the year. GOTTA LOVE IT! I'm still lovin life and can't wait to see what the Army has in store for me next." Her email is lyndsey.thompson@us.army.mil

CPT Ashton Shoults sent an update on 2/28/2008: "Wow, the Hilltopper Battalion is gettin all hip on me. I can't believe you guys are up on Myspace now... crazy. Anyways, here's a short update for anyone interested. I'm now the leader planner for my BN. Got done with the Company XO biz before my current job. I guess both jobs aren't bad but nothing will beat my experience as a Sapper PL in Iraq. Anyways, gettin ready to go back very, very soon. Lead from the Top and RUGGED!" Her email is ashton.shoults@us.army.mil

CPT Michael Steidl sent an update on 22/Jun/2008: "I am currently on my second deployment to Iraq but this time I have the unique challenge of working for the Iraqi Army helping them to become self sufficient. I work on an 11 man team that supports an Iraqi battalion of roughly 700 soldiers. While that may seem impossible we have actually seen our Iraqis take great stride to the point where we are almost more of a hindrance to them. The tough part is working with american conventional units. I currently only have 8 more months left in country and cannot wait to come home. Several other WKU grads are serving over here with me: Jennifer and Brian Miles, Justin Barnes and Ashton Shoults. Hopefully I will get to see them while we are all here." His email is steidman@hotmail.com.
