Research and Teaching Interests
My major area of research is metacognition, which is a higher-order cognitive process that plays a critical role in successful learning. My current research investigates metacognition in the context of text comprehension, namely, metacomprehension. I have examined (a) the cognitive processes underlying metacomprehension judgments; (b) the constraints on metacomprehension accuracy and the ways of improving it; (c) individual differences in metacomprehension ability; and (d) the effects of motivational and socio-emotional factors on metacomprehension ability.
My teaching interests include instruction on the psychological theories and research that apply to education such as theories of learning and cognition and theories of development. I am particularly interested in enhancing students' metacognitive ability and the ability to self-regulate their learning.
