Teaching Interests

I especially love introducing students to the world of psychology! When they understand how the theory and research they are studying in class relate to the 'real world', it stimulates their desire to learn more. I emphasize application of psychological concepts as a measure of critical thinking - if you can apply it correctly, you understand it. I believe in service learning/civic engagement as an essential part of the learning process both in applying knowledge, as well as in contributing to the community. I also emphasize parenting strategies when appropriate - how understanding and using psychology and child development can make a person a more effective parent. Student advisement is another of my interests. In a large university like WKU, students need to know that a personal connection with faculty is there for them.
